Managing Players
Player Profiles
Player profiles are the foundation of effective program management in PickleSync. Each player profile contains essential information that the system uses to generate balanced matches and communicate effectively.
Adding Players
You can add players to your program through several methods:
- Self Registration: Share your program's registration link for players to sign up independently
- Bulk Import: Upload a CSV file with player information for quick onboarding
- Manual Entry: Add individual players directly from the program dashboard
- Transfer: Import players from previous programs or seasons
When adding players manually, you'll need to provide their name, email address, phone number (optional), and skill rating. The skill rating is crucial for the match generation algorithm to create balanced games.
Player Information
Each player profile includes comprehensive information to help you manage your program effectively:
| Field | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
name | Player's full name | Yes |
email | Primary contact email | Yes |
phone | Mobile number for SMS notifications | No |
skill_level | DUPR or self-rated skill level | Yes |
availability | Weekly availability pattern | No |
preferences | Partner preferences or restrictions | No |
PickleSync tracks additional metrics automatically, including total matches played, win percentage, preferred playing times, and partnership history. This data helps the system make intelligent decisions when generating future matches.
Skill Ratings
Accurate skill ratings are essential for creating enjoyable matches. PickleSync supports multiple rating systems:
Self-Rated System
Players new to organized play can self-rate using standardized guidelines:
- 2.0-2.5: Beginner players still learning basic rules and strokes
- 3.0-3.5: Intermediate players with consistent serves and rallies
- 4.0-4.5: Advanced players with strong shot variety and strategy
- 5.0+: Tournament-level players with exceptional skills
DUPR Integration
For programs using Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR), PickleSync can automatically sync ratings:
{
"player_id": "12345",
"dupr_rating": 3.847,
"last_updated": "2026-02-10",
"verified": true
}
DUPR ratings update automatically after matches are recorded, ensuring your player database stays current without manual intervention.
Managing Player Status
Players can have different statuses within your program:
- Active: Participating regularly and available for matches
- Inactive: Taking a temporary break but still enrolled
- Waitlist: Interested players waiting for available spots
- Alumni: Former players who have completed the program
You can filter your player roster by status to quickly identify who should be included in upcoming match generation. Inactive players won't receive notifications or be included in new matches until reactivated.
Player Groups and Tags
Organize players using custom groups and tags for easier management:
- Skill Groups: Automatically categorized by skill level ranges
- Custom Tags: Create tags like "Weekday Only" or "Advanced Players"
- Teams: Assign players to permanent teams for league formats
- Partnerships: Track frequent playing partners and their success rates
Tags make it easy to generate matches for specific subsets of your player base or send targeted communications to particular groups.
